M. Sc. Probability and Statistics

The Master’s Degree in Probability and Statistics offers two options- Probability and Statistics. The programme aims at training Statisticians and Probabilists for the steadily increasing demand for researchers and other professionals in these fields and to provide prerequisites for research in mathematics with emphasis on Probability and Statistics. This latter aspect is of great significance in the context of our society where there is a severe shortage of trainers. The Statistics option is structured to be a combination of a professional degree programme which prepares students for the job market and, for those of these students who are interested, for post-gradute studies in any field in which Statistics is a prerequisite. The Statistics option is thus composed of courses in probability, theoretical Statistics and applied statistics that provide knowledge and understanding of statistical methods and their practical applications. The Probability option, seeks to offer state-of-the-art instruction in Probability. Apart from providing theoretical background to students who wish to acquire knowledge in Probability for application in other branches of Mathematics and its related Sciences, the programme also seeks to provide the necessary training to those students whose ultimate goal is to receive a terminal degree in Probability. The Probability option is structured to be a blend of courses in theoretical and applied Probability that provide broad knowledge and understanding of the subject.
